Katryntjiesdrift Private Resort - October 2022

Wellington, Western Cape, South Africa

After a long week, we were looking for an easy escape rather than a big expedition. Ralton had heard about Katryntjiesdrift Private Resort near Wellington, and it was close enough to make the decision simple: pack the kids, load the camp gear, and go see it for ourselves that same weekend.

Katryntjiesdrift sits less than 100 km from Cape Town, tucked among big trees with grass underfoot. We arrived to a quiet site, set up camp, and immediately felt the pace of the week begin to fall away.

A Camp Made for the Kids

The resort’s swimming pools and play area kept the kids busy from the start. There was plenty of space to run, climb, and splash about while the adults settled into camp beneath the trees.

That was the best part of the weekend: there was no route to chase and no schedule to keep. The kids had their fun, we had a proper campsite, and everyone could simply slow down.

Campfire Evenings

As the sun went down, camp became the place to be. The fire was on, dinner was going, and the conversations stretched into the evening. It was a simple family camping weekend, but those are often the ones that reset you properly.

Dinner around the campfire

By Sunday morning, we were not in much of a hurry to leave. Katryntjiesdrift turned out to be exactly what we needed: a relaxed, family-friendly campsite close to home, with enough for the kids to do and enough quiet for the rest of us to enjoy being away.

The full weekend is on the YouTube channel. Watch the video above.
