The Rig
The Ranger XLT is kept factory-spec, with no vehicle modifications. Its job changes with the trip: on a standalone overnighter, the fridge, stove, and camp kit are packed into the cab and loadbox; for a larger setup, it is paired with the Infanta Enkulu 2.
For trips that are about the drive rather than camping, it is equally at home carrying people and day gear to the next viewpoint, farm road, or coastal stop.

A Practical Overland Bakkie
The Ranger’s advantage is straightforward: a four-door cabin for the crew and a separate loadbox for the gear that should not share the passenger space. That makes packing flexible, whether the load is a compact camp kitchen, wet recovery equipment, firewood, or supplies for a weekend away.
Ford’s current South African Ranger range lists up to 3,500kg towing capacity and 985kg payload depending on the model and configuration. Those figures are not a rating for this specific vehicle; they show why the Ranger platform is a natural fit for towing and carrying. Actual limits always depend on the exact vehicle, trailer, load, and licence requirements.

Road Trips, Tracks & Towing
The long-wheelbase bakkie layout is comfortable over distance and useful once the tar ends. The Ranger is at its best on routes where a trailer, people, and a meaningful amount of equipment all need to arrive together. With the Enkulu 2 established at camp, it can still handle the local exploring without bringing the entire camp along.
