The Rig
The FJ Cruiser stays standard by design. There are no vehicle modifications here: for a standalone trip, the fridge, stove, recovery essentials, and the rest of the camp kit are packed in as needed. When the plan calls for a more complete camp, it pairs with the Infanta Enkulu 2 instead.
That keeps it useful beyond camping. For a day of exploring, the gear stays at home and the FJ is simply a comfortable, distinctive vehicle for getting to the back roads and enjoying the drive.
Built For Rougher Roads
The FJ Cruiser was designed as a body-on-frame 4x4, with a short wheelbase, good visibility from its upright driving position, and a rear-mounted spare wheel. Those basic proportions make it well suited to rocky tracks, sand, rutted roads, and the kind of uneven access routes that are part of an overland weekend.
It is not presented here as a heavily modified trail truck. Its capability comes from using the factory vehicle appropriately, choosing sensible routes, and packing for the trip rather than permanently turning every day out into a full expedition setup.

With The Enkulu 2
When the Enkulu 2 comes along, the FJ becomes the tow vehicle and keeps the trailer setup separate from the vehicle itself. That means a proper camp can be established without losing the FJ as a vehicle for exploring once the trailer is unhitched.
